BREVES PONDERAÇÕES ACERCA DO INSTITUTO DA DELAÇÃO PREMIADA APÓS A LEI Nº 12.850/2013.

O artigo apresenta brevemente as principais teses referentes à relação mente e cérebro no contexto dos emergentismos forte e fraco. Especificam-se ainda as principais consequências da discussão de uma possível neuroteologia para a compreensão dos processos de hominização, liberdade, limites do conhecimento cerebral e conhecimento do cérebro, relação entre mente-cérebro-mundo e “necessidade” do mistério gerada pela dinâmica cerebral.

A perspectiva de Jacques Rancière sobre o “momento qualquer” tem sido um dos conceitos mais frutíferos para compreender a elaboração contemporânea de cenas políticas de dissenso de um ponto de vista estético. Mas o que exatamente seria um “tempo qualquer”? Como se relaciona com a criação de narrativas políticas? Este texto descreve algumas relações entre tempo e comunicação a partir da visão de Rancière acerca das temporalidades intervalares que coexistem na construção de narrativas contra-hegemônicas sobre a existência de formas de (...) vida heterogêneas. Argumenta que (1) o conceito de "momento qualquer" se refere a uma categoria política, não apenas temporal; (2) a formação de cenas de dissenso está relacionada à definição dos significados de “tempos desmedidos” em cada ocasião, pois (3) opera na liminaridade dos tempos hegemônicos que enquadram a comunicação. Resumo: A filosofia ocupa um espaço praticamente inalterado nas várias licenciaturas, geralmente, compreendida como fundamentos da educação ou pressupostos necessários à reflexão filosófica da educação. Nesse movimento, o papel da filosofia é visto como instrumentalização para a cientificidade da prática pedagógica escolar. Mas será que a contribuição da filosofia na formação do educador deve constituir-se apenas e tão somente na fundamentação dos problemas filosófico-pedagógicos? Este texto é resultado das inspirações teóricas, metodológicas e da experiência do dispositivo de formação Ateliê Filosófico, (...) que, entre outros objetivos, desenvolve oficinas filosóficas que levaram à criação de um design cognitivo voltado para formação inicial de professores. Além disso, ao criar um ambiente de aprendizagem filosófica, utilizando práticas meditativas fundamentadas no educar transdisciplinar polilógico, o dispositivo fomenta reflexões sobre o ser-sendo educador e sua práxis no contexto contemporâneo. Abstract: Philosophy occupies a largely unchanged space in various teacher training programs, typically understood as the foundations of education or prerequisites for philosophical reflection on education. In this framework, the role of philosophy is seen as a tool for the scientific approach to pedagogical practice. However, should the contribution of philosophy to teacher education be limited to underpinning philosophical-pedagogical issues? This text results from the theoretical, methodological, and experiential inspirations of the Ateliê Filosófico training device, which, among other goals, develops philosophical workshops culminating in the creation of a cognitive design for engaging with philosophy in initial teacher training. Ultimately, by creating a philosophical learning environment through meditative practices grounded in a transdisciplinary polilogical approach, the device fosters reflections on the being-becoming of educators in the context of contemporary society. Resumen: La filosofía ocupa un espacio en gran medida inalterado en varios programas de formación docente, entendida típicamente como los fundamentos de la educación o los requisitos previos para la reflexión filosófica sobre la educación. En este marco, el papel de la filosofía se ve como una herramienta para el enfoque científico de la práctica pedagógica. Sin embargo, ¿debería la contribución de la filosofía a la formación de maestros limitarse a fundamentar cuestiones filosófico-pedagógicas? Este texto resulta de las inspiraciones teóricas, metodológicas y experienciales del dispositivo de formación Ateliê Filosófico, que, entre otros objetivos, desarrolla talleres filosóficos que culminan en la creación de un diseño cognitivo para abordar la filosofía en la formación inicial de docentes. En última instancia, al crear un entorno de aprendizaje filosófico a través de prácticas meditativas fundamentadas en un enfoque transdisciplinario polilógico, el dispositivo fomenta reflexiones sobre el ser-estar de los educadores en el contexto de la sociedad contemporánea. De acordo com o Princípio da Continuidade, adotado por Leibniz, toda mudança ocorre gradativamente, havendo sempre um grau intermediário entre dois estados quaisquer. Esse princípio parece ser, contudo, incompatível com a doutrina leibniziana acerca da natureza da autoconsciência, uma vez que Leibniz, ao menos prima facie, sustenta haver uma diferença de natureza – e não apenas de grau – entre percepções inconscientes e conscientes, fornecendo esta distinção a base para a diferenciação ontológica das mônadas entre puras enteléquias, almas e espíritos. Salvo engano, trata-se do primeiro exemplar temático da “Revista de Filosofi a da UNESP”.

Desde las atalayas del proceso globalizador se ha tratado de finiquitar la historia, pero la respuesta ha sido la destrucción del propio intento: la historia les ha devuelto la pelota. La modernidad se ha construido sobre dos pilares -léase torres- que han caído por tener los pies de barro, como el gigante del libro de Daniel. Sujeto y Razón, sesgados desde una comprensión miope, han sido los sustentos ideológicos de todo el proceso que ha llevado a la construcción de un (...) magno imperio en occidente, pero sus días han tocado a su fin, no porque sus propuestas no tuvieran validez fáctica, sino porque no podían responder a la necesidad humana de felicidad perenne. Recently, researchers on organization theory and behavior were challenged by the introduction of cognitive machines in the list of the organization’s participants. Researchers in this field advocated that cognitive machines contribute to improve cognitive abilities in the organization by extending people’s rationality and decision-making capacity and by reducing intra-individual and group dysfunctional conflicts. This paper supports these findings and extends their results to upper layers at managerial and organizational levels of application by proposing the concept of new industrial organizations with (...) structure and processes of Computational Organization Management Networks. In such a new organization type, cognitive machines and cognitive information systems are prominent actors of governance, automation, and control of the whole enterprise. (shrink)

At the end of the colonial epoch, the commercial taxes applied to the commodities that the Spanish America needed for its mainteinance supposed a heavy load for the economic and social life of those lands. The dissatisfaction that this supposed, together with the political and social crisis of the Spanish empire, generated an auspicious cultivation brotli that encouraged the struggle spirit of independence. It is demonstrated until which extent many of the inhabitants of those lands were well aware of the (...) abusive tax system that and how other solutions to the problem were offered. (shrink)

L’article se propose d’examiner les différentes conceptions des notions de subjectivité et d’objectivité dans les philosophies de Kant et Hegel à partir d’un « dialogue » entre les deux penseurs instauré par Theodor W. Adorno à travers non seulement la critique de Hegel à Kant mais aussi à travers une métacritique kantienne de Hegel. De cette façon, la présentation successive des motifs de la séparation entre phénomène et chose en soi, de l’adaequatio et de la négativité peut aussi servir d’introduction (...) au concept adornien de « dialectique négative ». “In the ‘interdisciplinary materialism’ theorized by Max Horkheimer and practiced by the critical-theoretical consortium of the 1930s, the critique of political economy worked both as a more general model for the critique of available knowledge and as the focal point for different disciplinary approaches. In such a constellation, the internal connection between the critical attitude and the critique of political economy also meant that ‘theory’ was the result of ‘critique’, having the critique of political economy as its model. These two (...) claims converge in that ‘theory’ was the same as producing critical diagnoses of the present time, Critical Theory’s most eminent task. Such a characterization of this first figure of Critical Theory allow us to see that the decline of the critique of political economy as a common language for collaboration from the 1940s on gave rise to a long-lasting dispute about its best substitute as the common ground for interdisciplinary research. Until today this dispute over the ‘best theory’ in the critical-theoretical field not only overshadows its most eminent aim but also threatens to blur the very distinction between Critical and Traditional contributions.”. This paper discusses the life and scientific work of José Vicente Barbosa du Bocage, a nineteenth-century Portuguese naturalist who carved a new place for zoological research in Portugal and built up a prestigious scientific career by securing appropriate physical and institutional spaces to the discipline. Although he was appointed professor of zoology at the Lisbon Polytechnic School, an institution mainly devoted to the preparatory training of military officers and engineers, he succeeded in creating the conditions that allowed him to develop (...) consistent research in zoology at this institution. Taking advantage of the reconstruction and further improvement of the building of the Lisbon Polytechnic, following a violent fire in 1843, Bocage transferred a natural history museum formerly located at the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon to his institution, where he conquered a more prestigious place for zoology. Although successive governments were unwilling to meet Bocage’s ambitions for the Zoological Section of the newly created National Museum of Lisbon, the collaborators he found in different parts of the Portuguese continental territory and colonial empire supplied him the specimens he needed to make a career as a naturalist. Bocage ultimately became a renowned specialist in Southwestern African fauna thanks to José de Anchieta, his finest collaborator. Travels to foreign museums, and the establishment of links with the international community of zoologists, proved fundamental to build up Bocage’s national and international scientific reputation, as it will be exemplified by the discussion of his discovery of Hyalonema, a specimen with a controversial identity collected off the Portuguese coast. O presente artigo se propõe a examinar criticamente o atual e dominante paradigma político, que aqui definiremos como terrorismo legal de Estado. Para tanto, fez-se necessário o recurso a três autores cujas reflexões buscam compreender a sua natureza e os seus principais modos de atuação, a saber, o filósofo italiano Giorgio Agambem, o jurista argentino Raúl Zaffaroni e o sociólogo francês Loic Wacquant. A partir das obras agambenianas Homo Sacer. O poder soberano e a vida nua I e Estado de (...) Exceção, elucidaremos o conceito de estado de exceção e o processo que, ao transformá-lo em prática permanente, marcou o ingresso definitivo do Estado na lógica do terrorismo. A materialização deste exercício de poder se dá – sobretudo nas conjunturas do continente americano, a referência empírica da pesquisa aqui apresentada – principalmente por meio da eliminação pelo encarceramento, levada a cabo por um direito penal punitivista que será compreendido à luz das obras O inimigo no direito penal (Zaffaroni) e Crime e castigo nos Estados Unidos: de Nixon a Clinton (Wacquant). In the late nineteenth century the Diocese of Ceará has started a trial to investigate about the transformation of the Holy Particle in flesh and blood in the mouth of devout Maria Magdalena do Espírito Santo de Araújo. The phenomena occurred in March 1889 and the inquiries were produced between 1891 and 1892 that were sent to the Holy See in 1893. In 1894, the Holy See ditacte a decree in which, it condemned Maria de Araújo and eight other women (...) as liars. This paper aims to analyze the trajectory of two devout women, Jahel Cabral e Maria da Soledade, from the analysis of an ecclesiastical inquiry that exists in the Archive of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican. We hypothesized that these women have sought to build unique spiritual paths through their testimonies, without the clerical intermediation, and because of that they were fought and condemned by the official Church. This article deals with the justification of water-related conflicts by analyzing a hypothetical war for Guarani Aquifer resources. In disagreement, a theoretical framework would be needed to justify war. First, Walzer’s version of Just War Theory (JWT) is presented as the most consolidated reference. Then, Waddington’s criticism of JWT is discussed when it comes to hydric resources, delineating the particularities of a natural resource and establishing that the “moral weight of water scarcity” should be considered. Following this, the hypothetical conflict (...) among countries is introduced. Finally, pragmatism is advocated for justification of conflicts involving water. (shrink)

This paper argues for contextualism about predicates of personal taste and evaluative predicates in general, and offers a proposal of how apparently resilient disagreements are to be explained. The present proposal is complementary to others that have been made in the recent literature. Several authors, for instance (López de Sa, 2008; Sundell, 2011; Huvenes, 2012; Marques and García-Carpintero, 2014; Marques, 2014a), have recently defended semantic contextualism for those kinds of predicates from the accusation that it faces the problem (...) of lost disagreement. These authors have proposed that a proper account of the resilient disagreement in the cases studied is to be achieved by an appeal to pragmatic processes, and to conflicting non-doxastic attitudes. It is argued here that the existing contextualist solutions are incomplete as they stand, and are subject to objections because of this. A supplementation of contextualism is offered, together with an explanation of why failed presuppositions of commonality (López de Sa), disputes over the appropriateness of a contextually salient standard (Sundell), and differences in non-doxastic attitudes (Sundell, Huvenes, Marques, and García-Carpintero) give rise to conflicts. This paper claims that conflicts of attitudes are the reason why people still have impressions of disagreement in spite of failed commonality presuppositions, that those conflicts drive metalinguistic disputes over the selection of appropriate standards, and hence conflicting non-doxastic attitudes demand an explanation that is independent of those context dependent pragmatic processes. The paper further argues that the missing explanation is 2-fold: first, disagreement prevails where the properties expressed by taste and value predicates are response-dependent properties, and, secondly, it prevails where those response-dependent properties are involved in evolved systems of coordination that respond to evolutionarily recurrent situations. Our ability to attend selectively to our surroundings - noticing things that matter, ignoring those that don't - is crucial if we are to negotiate the world around us. This is the first book in years to explore just how our attention can be influenced by time, and how our own perception of time can be influenced by what we attend to.

According to Steven Weinberg, it is the goal of elementary particle physics to search for the final laws of physics, i.e. a simple set of principles from which everything we know about physics can be derived. The main criterion that guides the search for such a set of principles is, according to the author, the sense of inevitability of physical theories, which Weinberg conflates with the idea of beauty. The theoretical physicists’ task is, in this sense, to look for constraining (...) principles, such as symmetries and renormalizability, that increase the sense of inevitability of physical laws. It is the goal of this paper to discuss Weinberg’s arguments in favor of reductionism, as well as his conception of final theory and the associated concept of “inevitability.”. (shrink)

During the last three decades, there have been great advances in our understanding of the neural mechanisms of selective attention, at the network as well as the cellular level. The Oxford Handbook of Attention brings together the different research areas that make up contemporary attention research into one comprehensive and authoritative volume.

Can an appeal to the difference between contrary and contradictory statements, generated by a non-uniform behaviour of negation, deal adequately with paradoxical cases like the sorites or the liar? This paper offers a negative answer to the question. This is done by considering alternative ways of trying to construe and justify in a useful way (in this context) the distinction between contraries and contradictories by appealing to the behaviour of negation only. There are mainly two ways to try to do (...) so: i) by considering differences in the scope of negation, ii) by considering the possibility that negation is semantically ambiguous. Both alternatives are shown to be inapt to handle the problematic cases. In each case, it is shown that the available alternatives for motivating or grounding the distinction, in a way useful to deal with the paradoxes, are either inapplicable, or produce new versions of the paradoxes, or both. O artigo aborda o tema da estilização do caráter no pensamento de Friedrich Nietzsche, através da apropriação de alguns dos temas centrais da sua filosofia, tais como a crítica avaliativa da modernidade ocidental, o pensamento do ‘eterno retorno’ e o sentido da ‘extemporaneidade’ [unzeitgemässe]. Através de um percurso pelo conjunto da sua obra e pelos textos de alguns dos seus comentadores, procura-se estabelecer uma interpretação do significado da sabedoria ativa através do desenvolvimento e embaralhamento, ao mesmo tempo livre e cuidadoso, (...) dos temas referidos acima. El presente texto se articula en tres partes. En la primera, se reseña que la metafísica en el siglo XX ha sufrido una crisis que ha llevado a considerarla una disciplina muerta, una quimera. La crítica realizada por la filosofía analítica –concretada aquí en Quine– y por Heidegger ha concluido en que la metafísica es imposible, un absurdo. En la segunda parte, se analiza qué metafísica o, mejor, cuál es la idea de metafísica que Quine y Heidegger tenían y contra (...) la que dirigían sus críticas. Se concluye que la tarea de ambos pensadores es eficaz, puesto que la metafísica objetivista –criticada por Quine– y la ontoteología –criticada por Heidegger– son efectivamente imposibles. Sin embargo, no con eso se termina el juicio sobre la metafísica, puesto que, en la tercera parte de este escrito, se indaga por una nueva forma posible de metafísica, una forma que apenas ha sido explorada. Se muestra que un saber en el que la fusión de gnoseología y ontología sea total es la única posibilidad de construir una filosofía primera. Se trata no de la consideración de la ontología y la gnoseología como dos partes o secciones de la metafísica, sino como dos dimensiones presentes en cada tema, en cada una de las proposiciones de la metafísica. Esta propuesta conecta con la visión que Aristóteles ofrece de su próte filosofía a través de la segunda aporía de Metafísica B, que implica la lectura simultánea del Órganon y la Metafísica , y que quizás nunca ha sido investigada como la autentica concepción de la filosofía primera. Nossos estudos na área da Educação e Diversidade no/do Grupo de Pesquisa Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas em Educação e Diversidade, da Faculdade de Educação da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, têm sido direcionados à compreensão das diferenças, tanto no que se referem aos fundamentos históricos, filosóficos, sociológicos que implicam a atualidade de outra forma de homens e mulheres serem, estarem e se relacionarem no e com o mundo, como também nos reflexos de toda essa mudança na e para (...) a educação. Uma das linhas de pesquisa do Núcleo – Cotidiano Escolar e Diversidade – tem como pano de fundo o deslocamento do dado do universal da modernidade para o do múltiplo da atualidade, através da análise das categorias conhecimento, tempo, espaço e sujeito. Particularmente no Grupo Tempos, focamos nossos estudos/pesquisas na temática tempo. Neste texto, apresentamos um recorte do projeto Temporalidades no/do cotidiano escolar, em que é narrada uma roda de conversa ocorrida em 21 de março de 2013 com as professoras de uma escola municipal acerca das narrativas da linha do tempo da vida de cada uma registradas nos Cadernos de narrativas. No desenvolvimento, explicitamos o lugar da pesquisa em nossos estudos, o uso da pesquisa no/ do/com o cotidiano como processo metodológico e a concepção de tempo complexo na perspectiva de Edgar Morin. Chegamos, assim, à narrativa da vida de professoras nessa roda de conversa e às conversações sobre as temporalidades em sua vida. A imobilidade da educação se pauta num saudosismo de um passado, e transformá-la implica reconstruí-la a partir do presente, considerando a complexidade dos acontecimentos. Este artigo pretende abordar a representação que Platão fez do personagem mítico. O objetivo é responder à seguinte questão: como Platão representou Orfeu? Assim, de acordo com esta pergunta traçamos três objetivos para chegarmos à conclusão. O primeiro objetivo tem como meta principal apresentar obras literárias antigas nas quais Orfeu é citado. Isto nos permitirá ter uma perspectiva interna do mundo antigo sobre este personagem, ajudando no momento de julgar a representação feita por Platão. O segundo objetivo traz as citações (...) que Platão fez com o nome de Orfeu. Neste ponto apenas indicamos as obras e seus respectivos contextos internos. Isto é útil para localizarmos as passagens e situações literárias nas quais Platão fez uso do nome do poeta mítico. E na última parte refletimos sobre os motivos que levaram Platão a citar Orfeu. Nosso resultado é que o filósofo ateniense faz uso literário do personagem em pelo menos dois sentidos, metafórico e poético. Porém, e acima de tudo, Platão faz uso alegórico do nome de Orfeu ao encontrar nele características que são próprias dos sofistas do século IV. Nossa metodologia foi essencialmente bibliográfica e interpretativa. Na conclusão mostramos que o mito de Orfeu foi retrabalhado por Platão de forma criativa e livre, mantendo a fama e glória comumente associadas a este personagem e também o relacionando a novos atores da vida cultural grega. Ideology and self-interest are often in tension. If positive political theorists assume broad self-interest as the standard of human behaviour, they can accommodate people’s ideological motivation to act for the common good. Yet, their theories may become tautological and empirically untestable. Conversely, if these theorists assume narrow self-interest, they increase testability. But because ideology seems incompatible with narrow self-interest, they often rule ideology out as a motivational driver. Positive political theorists can, however, combine ideology with narrow self-interest by assuming broad (...) egoism. And in so doing, they should assume that ideology motivates political agents until it becomes too costly for these agents’ material interests. (shrink)

ResumoO artigo apresenta alguns dos elementos centrais do livro Como nasce o novo. Experiência e diagnóstico de tempo na Fenomenologia do espírito de Hegel, publicado em 2018 e composto de três partes, precedidas de uma breve introdução. No miolo do livro se encontra a tradução para o português do texto da Introdução à Fenomenologia do espírito, tendo ao lado o texto original em alemão. A terceira e última parte do livro, a mais extensa, analisa e comenta a Introdução. Essas segunda (...) e terceira partes do livro vêm precedidas de uma Apresentação relativamente longa, cujo desenvolvimento em separado se impôs em razão da necessidade de procedimentos adicionais de justificação em relação a questões como a da posição do livro de 1807 no conjunto da obra de Hegel, de sua sistematicidade interna e de seu peculiar diagnóstico de tempo, assim como em relação a considerações indicativas e programáticas sobre possíveis conexões dessa interpretação com a Teoria Crítica. Tal olhar permite vislumbrar uma interpretação não metafísica de Hegel que pode evitar as violências exegéticas que costumam acompanhar um empreendimento dessa natureza. Nesse sentido, o livro propõe interpretar a Fenomenologia em termos de um modelo filosófico que subsiste por si mesmo, independentemente dos escritos anteriores e da obra posterior de Hegel. Tal caracterização se faz por meio do que o livro resume sob a expressão “condições intelectuais de produção”, o que implica não apenas reconstruir o diagnóstico de época e o diagnóstico de tempo de Hegel no momento da redação da Fenomenologia, mas igualmente o padrão de sistematicidade que adotou para redigi-lo.AbstractThe article presents some of the central elements of the book Como nasce o novo. Experiência e diagnóstico de tempo na Fenomenologia do espírito de Hegel, published in 2018 and composed of three parts, preceded by a brief introduction. At the heart of the book is the translation into Portuguese of the text of the Introduction to the Phenomenology of Spirit, side-by-side with the original German text. The third and last part of the book, the most extensive, analyzes and comments the text of the Introduction. These second and third parts of the book are preceded by a relatively long Presentation, whose separate development was imposed by the need ofadditional justification procedures in relation to issues such as the position of the 1807 book in Hegel’s work as a whole, its internal systematicity and diagnosis of time, and – although only through indicative and programmatic considerations – the relation to possible connections of the interpretation with Critical Theory. Such an interpretation aims at allowing a glimpse to a nonmetaphysical interpretation of Hegel that can avoid the exegetical violence that usually accompany an undertaking of this nature. In this sense, the book proposes to interpret the Phenomenology in terms of a philosophical model that subsists on its own, regardless of Hegel’searlier writings and later work. Such characterization is done by means of what the book summarizes under the expression “intellectual conditions of production”, which implies not only reconstructing the time diagnosis Hegel had at the moment in which he wrote the Phenomenology, but also the pattern of systematicity that he adopted to produce it. Humans and organizations have limitations of computational capacity and information management. Such constraints are synonymous with bounded rationality. Therefore, in order to extend the human and organizational boundaries to more advanced models of cognition, this research proposes concepts of cognitive machines in organizations. From a micro point of view, what makes this research distinct is that, beyond people, it includes in the list of participants of the organization the cognitive machines. From a macro point of view, this paper relies on (...) the premise that cognitive machines can improve the cognitive abilities of the organization. From such perspectives, it presents rationale and principles of a class of cognitive machines with capabilities to carry out complex cognitive tasks in organizations. It also introduces analyses of the cognitive machines in organizations through theories of bounded rationality, economic decision-making, and conflict resolution. The analyses indicate that these machines can solve or reduce intra-individual and group dysfunctional conflicts which arise from decision-making processes in the organization, and thus they can improve the degree of organizational cognition. From all these backgrounds, this research outlines implications of cognitive machines for organizations. (shrink)

I suggest that the main aim Recanati proposes to achieve in Perspectival Though—that a moderate relativist should adopt a Kaplanian framework with three levels of content, rather than a Lewisian framework with only two— seems insufficiently motivated, and the arguments offered do not settle the issue. I suggest furthermore that the claim that subjects’ mental states and cognitive situations can determine parameters or indices in circumstances of evaluation is an original and very interesting contribution. It is also an important one, (...) since it sets further apart the radical from the moderate relativist, and it is relevant in the current relativism debate, where truth is deemed to be relative to parameters other than worlds, times, places and individuals. I also offer a few objections to some of the reasons Recanati puts forward in support of this latter claim; I object in particular to those that depend on some considerations about psychological modes. Words change meaning, usually in unpredictable ways. But some words’ meanings are revised intentionally. Revisionary projects are normally put forward in the service of some purpose – some serve specific goals of inquiry, and others serve ethical, political or social aims. Revisionist projects can ameliorate meanings, but they can also pervert. In this paper, I want to draw attention to the dangers of meaning perversions, and argue that the self-declared goodness of a revisionist project doesn’t suffice to avoid meaning perversions. (...) The road to Hell, or to horrors on Earth, is paved with good intentions. Finally and more importantly, I want to demarcate what meaning perversions are.
